A Poem for A New Year

As I work through my goals and resolutions for the new year I looked back over this poem by Amy Carmichael.  If I didn’t know better I’d say she knew me.

“God, harden me against myself,
The coward with pathetic voice
Who craves for ease and rest and joy.
Myself, arch-traitor to myself,
My hollowest friend,
My deadliest foe,
My clog, whatever road I go.”

I won’t bore you with a laundry list of personal goals and resolutions, but I will say that they are all born from this struggle.  I always have an enemy close by… and it is me.
